Sports fans love rivalry. Be it between players, coaches, teams, conferences, cities, or entire states, rivalry is one of those aspects that makes sports great.
So how does this play into your business strategy? There are many examples of how sports rivalries can be monetized for the advancement of both programs. Take for example tonight’s football game between Baylor and Texas Tech – the “Shootout” – played near Dallas, TX. These are two teams located in the same state, with a shared history and large percentage of fans in the area that partnered with another sport entity trying to monetize their own facility to the fullest extent possible (the Dallas Cowboys).
How might your organization apply this example to your current circumstances. High school football showcase? Sponsored, in-state, branded rivalry game? Think about that as your organization considers different sources of revenue.
